Remote fob battery change on Defender

Vehicle ➔ Defender 110 Td5 2002
Difficulty ➔ Easy

Time ➔ 20 minutes
Summary

The Defender remote fob battery usually lasts several years, but unfortunately it is not eternal. If the remote control no longer works properly or if the hazards no longer flash when you unlock the doors with the remote control, it is time to change the battery.

If the battery shows signs of weakness, change it immediately. If you delay too long, the Defender will refuse to start and will be immobilized.

The battery must be changed before the engine is immobilised. After turning off the ignition, the engine will be immobilised in 30 seconds if you open the driver's door and in 5 minutes if you do not open the driver's door. If you take too long to change the battery, you will have to enter the emergency access code before you can synchronize the remote control.

If you are changing the battery for the first time, take the new battery and tools with you, sit in the driver's seat and change the battery without opening the door. This will give you 5 minutes to open the remote control transmitter and change the battery.

Using a piece of plastic rather than a screwdriver avoids any risk of short circuit.

This operation releases the residual voltage of the transmitter.
Op 06
